Wine tasting New Zealand’s
finest

Take a day trip to the vineyards and wineries of the
Hawke’s Bay region, a leisurely 2-hour drive from
Taupo. This is home to many of New Zealand's
leading wineries and restaurants and is one of
New Zealand’s oldest and most established
wine making districts with over 40 wineries
to choose from.

The district has been building a reputation for producing high quality red wines from Bordeaux red varieties and Syrah as well as some of New Zealand’s best chardonnays. Some of the premium wineries include Sileni, Craggy Range, Villa Maria, Te Awa Farm, Kim Crawford, Trinity Hill, Matariki, Ngatarawa Stables and Kemblefield. Many of these feature restaurants – for example, at Sileni Winery’s "Mesa Alfresco Restaurant" visitors can relax with friends over a daily luncheon menu and savour Sileni wines and the views of the vineyard from the terraces.
