Spectacular Sightseeing

The Taupo area is rich in sightseeing opportunities.
An hour’s drive north brings guests to the bubbling
mud pools, geysers and trout filled lakes of Rotorua,
with its rich Maori cultural heritage. An hour’s drive
to the south is the unique volcanic landscape of the
Tongariro National Park, where stand Mt Tongariro,
the conical shaped Mt. Ngauruhoe and the North
Island’s highest peak – Mt. Ruapehu. Close to
Taupo are the beautiful Huka Falls on the Waikato
River, and within ten minutes drive from The Point Villas
is the thriving Taupo township with its many shops, boutiques,
galleries, cafés and restaurants.
With The Point Villas located right on the edge of Lake
Taupo, naturally guests can enjoy the lake’s crystal clear waters
with a leisurely lake cruise, either with a picnic lunch aboard or catching
a romantic sunset cruise complete with champagne. Pick-up right from
The Point’s own jetty.
Within the Estate guests can also kayak around the rocks
to view the recent Maori carvings and the Okutu Pa caves where 800-year
old Maori remains have been discovered. Alternatively walk the kilometres
of trails on the Estate that lead down to the lakes edge and discover
New Zealand’s native bush and its prolific bird life such as Tui,
Bellbirds and quail.
For the ultimate sightseeing indulgence take a helicopter
flight with Helipro to gain a bird’s eye view of the entire region.
